Also, this is why I can’t get behind the Neil Diamond musical on Broadway. If you can’t get a Jew, at least get an Italian, or failing that, at least someone from New York (I’d settle for a Puerto Rican), but a Mormon from Utah? As the Jewish Elvis? No way.
I grew up in Plainview on Long Island. Plainview was at the time 48% Jewish, 48% Italian, 4% other. Even split of kids at my Bar Mitzvah. We hardly saw any difference with the exception of a Jew named Jesus (or Yeshua.) The handshake is real.
Pacino's performance/character in the wacky Amazon show Hunters had the potential to throw off the delicate balance of the handshake, but the calming presence of Saul Rubinek and Carol Kane held it together.
Agreed.
Where does Tony Shaloub fit into this?

Good question. Tony Shaloub is fine. As is F. Murray Abraham. That's a whole other discussion known as the Semitic Brotherhood.
F. Murray Abraham is Italian on his mother’s side!

Long Island is the epicenter!
